Book Review: Secret Haven by Catherine Cowles

Secret Haven is the sixth and final book in the Sparrow Falls series by Catherine Cowles and it brings the series to a close in a satisfying and heartwarming way.

After falling in love as teenagers Kyler and Fallon were forced apart by fate until an unexpected event forces them into a temporary marriage of convenience, where the line between what’s real and what’s pretend becomes blurred.

We first met Kyler and Fallon way back in book one and as the series progressed I knew their story was going to be epic, and it was!

The slow burn, yearning and angst in this book was everything I wanted! The love and protectiveness that Kye and Fallon feel for each other is achingly beautiful and their path to happiness was heartbreaking and healing at the same time. This book definitely tugged on my heartstrings and had me feeling lots of emotions, in the best way.

As usual there’s an undercurrent of suspense with plenty of red herrings and misdirection to keep you guessing who the villain is but the heart of these books is always the found family aspect, and in Secret Haven the extended Colson family once again prove that family isn’t defined by blood.

“You were my safe haven, the place I returned to again and again, even if I could only hold you in the secret places of my soul.”

Here’s the synopsis

When I first met Kyler Blackwood, he was a bruised and battered boy with fire in his eyes and nowhere safe to land.

Since the first time he kissed me, he became my best-kept secret, my quiet rebellion, my haven in the storm. Until fate forced us apart, making us pretend to be strangers.

Years later, time hasn’t dulled our instant connection, or erased the way we fit together.

We were never meant to cross the line. And tell ourselves this arrangement is only temporary. But with each passing day, the lie starts to feel more like the truth. And, with every stolen touch, Kye feels more like mine. Because some things were never meant to be pretend.

But there are secrets that refuse to remain buried. And some dangers are closer than we ever imagined
