Shattered Dreams is book one in the Dreams series by Natasha Madison and begins with a devastating accident that changes the lives of everyone involved.
After 8 years away Autumn moves back home to be closer to her family and while some locals are friendly to her there’s still people who are not happy to see her back, including Charlie who outright hates her.
Charlie was such an angry man in the beginning of the book and his hate for Autumn was hard to read. As the story unfolds it becomes apparent that he’s still heartbroken and overwhelmed with grief and doesn’t know how to move past his hatred and anger.
Autumn has been surviving since the accident but not really living. The loss of her best friend, the vitriol from the town coupled with her feelings of guilt left her with no option but to move away and never come back, until she finds out her Dad is ill.
Autumn and Charlie are broken by trauma and had a lot to overcome before they could heal and I really enjoyed the way their relationship evolved and the emotional journey they took.
Shattered Dreams is an emotional book that deals with love and heartbreak but also forgiveness. The character growth of both Autumn and Charlie was a highlight for me, especially after Charlie’s behaviour at the beginning of the book, and really pulled on the heartstrings.
I’m hoping Autumn’s brother Brady will get his own book because I really liked him as a side character and would like to see more of him.
